If the length of a rectangle is decreased by 2 meters and the breadth increased by 2 meters the area would increased 8 square meters. If the length is decreased by 3 meters and the bread, decreased by 1 meters , the area would decreased by 27 square meters. What are the length and breadth?

Answer:

is

Let length be L and breadth be B

(l-2)(b+2)= a +8....(1)

(l-3)(b-1) = a-27....(2)

from (1):

lb + 2l -2b -4 = lb +8 (area = l×b)

2l - 2b = 12.....(3)

from (2)

lb -l -3b +3 = lb -27

- l -3b = -30.....(4)

solve (3) and (4):

multiply (4) by 2 and add to (3) you get:

-8b = -72

b = 9

put this value of b in (3) or (4)

you will find l = 15

area = l×b = 15×9 = 135
