If the length of a rectangle is decreased by 4 units and the breadth is

increased by 5 units then the area increases by 9 sq. units. Represent the

situation as a linear equation in two variables.​

breadth of rectangle be y

Area = xy

New length = (x - 4)

new breadth = (y + 5)

new Area = (x - 4)(y + 5)

according to question

(x - 4)(y + 5) = xy + 9

xy + 5x - 4y - 20 = xy + 9

5x - 4y = 9 + 20

5x - 4y = 29

is the required equation.
