If the length of a rectangle is increased by 20% and the breadth is decreased by 10%, what will be the effect on its area?

The area will increase too.

If the length is 10cm and the breadth is 5cm then when it is increased it will be 10.2cm and 5.1cm

Area of rectangle=length×breadth

Thus,

10cm×5cm

=50cm

10.2cm×5.1cm

=52.02cm

The percentage increased

=52.05cm-50cm

=2.02cm

Thus, the area will also increase.
