If the length of a rectangle is increased by 5 metres and the breadth
decreased by 3 metres, the area would decrease by 5 square metres.
If the length is increased by 3 metres and breadth increased by 2 metres,
the area would increase by 50 square metres. What are the length and
breadth?

Answer:

length = 10m

breadth = 8m

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the length be x and breadth be y, then

area of rectangle = xy

Case 1:

new length=(x+5)m

new breadth=(y-3)m

so, new area = (x+5)(y-3)m²

=xy +5y -3x -15 ....(i)

acc to q,

new area = (xy -5)m²

so, from (i)

xy -5=xy+5y-3x-15

5y-3x=10.... (ii)

Case 2:

new length=(x+3)m

new breadth=(y+2)m

so, new area=(x+3)(y+2)m²

=xy+6+3y+2x....(iii)

acc to q,

new area =(xy +50)m²

so, from (iii)

xy+50 = xy +6+3y+2x

2x + 3y=44... (iv)

on multiplying (ii) with 2 and (iv) with 3 and adding them we get

y=8m

x=10m

Hope this helps
