The area covered by the square = 32 cm²

Formula :

  • For square of side a unit the length of diagonal of the square = a√2 unit

  • For square of side a unit the area of the square is a² sq.unit

Solution :

Step 1 of 3 :

Find length of the diagonal of the square

Here it is given that the length of the longest straight line that can be drawn in a square is 8 cm

We know that the length of the longest straight line that can be drawn in a square is diagonal of the square

The length of the diagonal of the square = 8 cm

Step 2 of 2 :

Find length of each side

Let length of each side = a cm

By the given condition

a√2 = 8

⇒ a = 8/√2

⇒ a = 4√2

The length of each side = 4√2 cm

Step 3 of 3 :

Find area covered by the square

The area covered by the square

= a² cm²

= (4√2)² cm²

= 32 cm²
