Step-by-step explanation:

Let breadth be x

Length = 2x

Area = 20 cm sq.

According to the question,

Area = L × B

20 cm sq. = 2+x×x

20 cm sq. = 2+x

20-2 = x

18= x

Therefore,

Breadth= x = 18

Length= 2+x= 2+18. = 20

Given condition :

The length of a rectangle is 2 more than that of its breadth.

Required to find :

The magnitude of length and breadth.  -->1

Solution :

Let the breadth of the rectangle be 'b'

Then it's length = 'b + 2'  (from 1)

Area = 20 square centimeters

Now actually area = length X breadth

                              = (b + 2) X (b) = b^2 + 2b

As it's area = 20 sq. cm

b^2 + 2b = 20

b^2 + 2b - 20 = 0

b^2 + 5b - 4b - 20 = 0

b X (b + 5) - 4 X (b + 5) = 0

(b - 4) X (b + 5) = 0

Now we get two equations,

1)  b - 4 = 0

   Here we get, b = 4cm

2)  b + 5 = 0

    Here we get, b = -5

So, we got b = 4 or -5

As length or breadth can't be negative,

b = 4

So breadth = b = 4cm

    length = b + 2 = 6cm

So the breadth of the rectangle is 4cm and it's length is 6cm.
