Refer the attached figure

So, Length of shadow  i.e.  BC = x

Height i.e. AB  = x

Using trigonometric ratio:

tan\theta = \frac{Perpendicular}{Base}  

tan \theta = \frac{AB}{BC}  

tan \theta = \frac{x}{x}  

tan \theta =1

\theta =tan^{-1}1

\theta =45^{\circ}

Hence the angle of elevation is 45°
