Let the length be x meters and breadth be y meters.

Area of rectangular plot = Length × Breadth

= x × y = xy meters square

Now length is 50% increased

New length = x + x × 50÷100 = 3x/2 meters

And Breadth is 20% increased

New Breadth = y + y × 20÷100 = 6y/5 meters

New Area = 3x/2 × 6y/5 = 9xy/5 meters square

Increase in Area = 9xy/5 ÷ xy = 9/5

Hence its area will be increased 9/5 times.
