Let the length be x meters and breadth be y meters.
Area of rectangular plot = Length × Breadth
= x × y = xy meters square
Now length is 50% increased
New length = x + x × 50÷100 = 3x/2 meters
And Breadth is 20% increased
New Breadth = y + y × 20÷100 = 6y/5 meters
New Area = 3x/2 × 6y/5 = 9xy/5 meters square
Increase in Area = 9xy/5 ÷ xy = 9/5
Hence its area will be increased 9/5 times.
