For a point source, the waveform produced is SPHERICAL.

Detailed Discussion:

  • Let's imagine a point source placed at a reference origin.

  • Now, as the waves radiate outwards from the source we can clearly imagine a sphere at a particular radius from the source at which all the particles of the wave are in the same phase.

  • So, at particular radii from the source, as all the particles will remain in the same phase, we will call that sphere as the waveform.

So, spherical waveform is produced.

  • Similarly, for linear light sources, we get a cylindrical waveform.

  • For light sources situated at infinity, we get a plane waveform.
