Solution:

Given Question:

If the lines 3x + 2ky = 2 and 2x + 5y + 1 = 0 are parallel.

Find:

Find the value of k.

Given:

Equation of parallel lines,

→ 3x + 2ky = 2 ...............(i)

→ 2x + 5y + 1 = 0..........(ii)

Slope of Line (i):

→ Slope 1 = - coefficient of x / coefficient of y.

→ Slope 1 = - 3 / 2k

Slope of Line(ii):

→ Slope 2 = - coefficient of x/ coefficient of y.

→ Slope 2 = -2/5

We know, for parallel lines, the slope or gradient is equal.

So, Slope1 = Slope2

→ -3/2k = -2/5

→ 3/2k = 2/5

→ 3 × 5 = 2 × 2k

→ 15 = 4k

or → k = 15/4

or k = 4 ¾
