Given : loudness of a sound is reduced to 36%

To find : amplitude gets reduced to

Solution:

Loudness is directly proportional to square of the amplitude.

Loudness ∝ (Amplitude)²

=> Loudness = k (Amplitude)²

Let say loudness = L

Amplitude =  A

L  = k A²

loudness of a sound is reduced to 36%

=> new loudness Lₙ = 0.36L

Lₙ = k ( Aₙ)²

=> 0.36L = k ( Aₙ)²

=> 0.36 k A² = k ( Aₙ)²

=> ( Aₙ)² = 0.36A²

=> ( Aₙ)² =(0.6A)²

=> Aₙ = 0.6A

Amplitude get reduced to 60 %

option 3 is correct

Answer:

Option : 3

Explanation:

Loudness has a direct relationship with amplitude. Mathematically, it is proprotional to the square of amplitude.

Loudness = constant x (Amplitude)^2

L = constant x A2

A = \sqrt{L/constant}

In given case, we are given that loudness is reduced by 36%.

L' = 0.36 L

L' = constant ( A') ^2

0.36L  = constant ( A') ^2

Taking square root on both sides,

0.6 \sqrt{L/constant} = A'

or

A' = 0.6 A

Hence amplitude will reduce by 60 %
