If the maximum number of electrons is 2n^2, why is there an octet rule?

Answer:

2n² denotes that the shell contains maximum electron possibility(it may or may not)

but,

octet rule is for the efficiency of electron to attaining stability, if an atom contains 8 electrons in outer most shell then that atom gets stable configuration
