GIVEN :

  • Mean of the given observations = 15

  • Observations : 10 , 12 , 18 , 13, p and 17

TO FIND :

  • The value of p.

FORMULA REQUIRED :

\underline{\boxed{ \red {\tt{Mean = \dfrac{Total \: sum \: of \: observations}{Total \: number \: of \: observations .}}}}}

SOLUTION :

  • Mean of the given observations = 15

\implies{\sf{Mean = \dfrac{Total \: sum \: of \: observations}{Total \: number \: of \: observations}}} \\ \\

\implies{\sf{15= \dfrac{10 + 12 + 18 + 13 + p+17}{6}}} \\ \\

\implies{\sf{15= \dfrac{70+ p }{6}}} \\ \\

  • By cross multiplication :

\implies{\sf{15 \times 6 = 70+p}} \\ \\

\implies{\sf{90= 70 + p}} \\ \\

  • Transposing 70 to left side :

\implies{\sf{90 - 70 = p}} \\ \\

\implies{\sf{20 = p}} \\ \\

\implies{ \underline{\huge {\boxed{\pink{\bf{ p = 20}}}}}}

\huge{\red{\therefore}} The value of p is 20.
