formula is =£x/n. 73+x/5=18
73+x=90
x=90-73=17

mean = sum of all observation ÷ number of observation

( 16 + 14 + x + 23 + 20 ) / 5 = 18

73 + x = 18 × 5

73 + x = 90

       x = 90 - 73

       x = 17
