we know that,

mean =  \frac{sum \: of \: observations}{total \: no. \: of \: obervations}

 \frac{26 + (x - 2) + 25 + x + 24}{5}   = 27

26 + (x-2) + 25 + x + 24 = 27 × 5

26 + x - 2 + 25 + x + 24 = 135

73 + 2x = 135

2x = 135 - 73

2x = 62

x =  \frac{62}{2}

x = 31

Verification:

 \frac{26 + (31 - 2) + 25 + 31 + 24}{5}  = 27

 \frac{26 + 29 + 25 + 31 + 24}{5}  = 27

 \frac{135}{5}  = 27

LHS = RHS
