Given:

The mean of 4 consecutive odd numbers is 6.

To find:

The largest number.

Solution:

The largest number is 9.

To answer this question, we will follow the following steps:

Let the smallest odd number be x.

So, the other three consecutive odd numbers are (x + 2), (x + 4) and (x + 6)

Now,

As given, we have,

The mean of 4 consecutive odd numbers = 6

Also,

 \frac{Sum.  of observations}{number of observations}  = Mean

So,

 \frac{(x) + (x + 2) + (x + 4) + (x + 6)}{4}  = 6

4x + 12 = 24

4x = 12

x = 3

So,

The largest number = x + 6 = 3 + 6 = 9

Hence, the largest number is 9.
