mean=sum of observation ÷ no. of observation.

so,
 \frac{6 + 4 + 7 + p + 10}{5} = 8 \\ 6 + 4 + 7 + 10 + p = 40 \\ 27 + p = 40 \\ p = 13

mean=sum of all observation/total no. of observation
mean=6+4+7+p+10/5
8=27+p/5
40=27+p
p=40-27
p=13
