The value of x if the mean is 14 of the given data: 6, 10, 12, x, 16 is 26.

Formula to find  MEAN :

MEAN = Sum of the values of all the observations / Total number of observations

Given :

Mean = 14 , observations are : 6, 10, 12, x, 16 .

To Find :

The value of x of the given data

Solution :

Step 1:

Write the total number of observations

Total number of observations from the given data ( 6, 10, 12, x , 16) = 5

Step 2:

Find sum of observations:

Sum of observations = (6 + 10 + 12 + x + 16 )

Sum of observations = 44 + x

Step 3 :

Put the values from step 1 and step 2 in the formula of mean :

MEAN = Sum of the values of all the observations / Total number of observations

14 = \frac{(44 + x)}{5}

14 × 5 = (44 + x)

70 = 44 + x

x = 70 - 44

x = 26

Hence, the value of x is 26 .
