We have, VARIABLES --1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ; FREQUENCY (corresponding to serially ordered variables) -- 4, 5, y, 1, 2. MEAN = 2.6
Since, mean = (sum of all frequencies)÷no. of terms ; Therefore, 2.6 = (4+5+y+1+2)÷5 => 26/10= (4+5+y+1+2)÷5 => (by dividing both sides by 5, we get)-- 13= 4+5+y+1+2 => 13-12=y => 1=y.
