Given:

  • The numbers are 17,13, 10, 15, x

To Find:

  • The value of x if x is the median

Explanation

Median is the value that separate the data set into the higher value set and the lower value set. In another words, the median the number that is in the middle of the set.

Solution

Arrange the number in ascending order with x in the middle of the sequence:

The numbers are 17,13, 10, 15, x

⇒  Ascending order = 10, 13, x, 15, 17

Therefore, if x is an integer:

⇒  x is between 13 and 15

⇒  x is 14

Answer: x = 14

Answer:

Median is the middle number in a list.

here the list is 17,13,10,15,x

Arrange them in ascending order

10, 13, x, 15, 17

I have put x in middle because it is given that x is median and 3rd number will always be median in a list of 5.

Now if we look at the 2nd number 13 and 4th number 15, there can be only one number in between then i.e, 14

So 14 should be the answer
