Correct question is :

If the mean of 6, 4, 7, 13 and p is 8 then find the value of p.

The value of p in the data is 10.

  • The mean of a data is given by

Mean = \frac{Sum \ of \ all \ observations}{Number \ of \ observations}

  • Substituting the known values in the formula , we get

8 = \frac{6+4+7+13+p}{5}

40 = 30 + p

p = 10

  • The value of p is 10.
