The meter number printed on the meter is provided by the meter manufacturer. The electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs) give a unique number to every consumer/electricity connection. They link the installed meter number with the unique consumer number. When ever the meter needs to be changed for technical up gradations or meter faults the meter number changes and the new meter number is linked with the consumer number in the billing system’s database.
