If the mirror image of the point P(5,2) in x-axis is the point Q and the image of Q in y-axis is R.

We have to find the coordinates of R.

concept :

  • mirror image is the virtual image formed by reflection of a plane mirror.
  • It is identical of object (i.e., shape and size) but is reversed in the direction perpendicular to the mirror surface.

mirror image of a point with respect to axes :

  • mirror image of a point (a, b) with respect to x - axis would be (a , -b).
  • mirror image of a point (a, b) with respect to y - axis would be (-a, b).

here point is (5, 2).

step 1 : mirror image of (5, 2) with respect to x - axis is (5, -2).

∴ Q = (5, -2)

step 2 : mirror image of Q with respect to y - axis is (-5, -2).

∴ R = (-5, -2)

Therefore the correct option is (b) (-5, -2)
