if the mode of the data 5 8 4 5 5 8 4 7 8 x is 5 then find the value of x

5 repeated 3 times only and it is the mode of data. the n 8 also repeated 3 times so it can also be the mode.
So, if 5 should be the mode of data then value of x should be 5

The mode of the data 5 , 8 , 4 , 5 , 5 , 8 , 4 , 7 , 8 , x is 5

Solution :

Step 1 of 2 :

Write down the given observations

Here the given observations are 5 , 8 , 4 , 5 , 5 , 8 , 4 , 7 , 8 , x

Step 2 of 2 :

Find the value of x

Occurrence of 4 = 2 times

Occurrence of 5 = 3 times

Occurrence of 7 = 1 time

Occurrence of 8 = 3 times

Occurrence of x = 1 time

Here it is given that the mode of the data 5 , 8 , 4 , 5 , 5 , 8 , 4 , 7 , 8 , x is 5

∴ 5 will occur with maximum frequency.

Again the observations 5 and 8 both occur same number of times

So in order to 5 become the mode , x must be equal to 5

Hence the required value of x = 5
