if the mode of the following data is 14 find the value of x 10 12 14 15 15 14 52 14 15 x 16 14 16

The value of x is 14 because we know that mode is the highest frequency, so if we get 14 as value of x then we can say 14 became 5 times.

The value of x can be either 10 or 12 or 14 or 16 or 52.

  • Given mode of data is 14.
  • Tabulating the given data, we get

           x :  10   12   14   15   16  52

           f :    1     1      4    3    2     1

  • We know that mode of an ungrouped data is the observation with highest frequency.
  • If value of x is taken as 15, it's frequency becomes 4(equal to that of 14).
  • But value of mode is given as 14, so value of x cannot be 15.
  • Therefore, value of x can be either 10 or 12 or 14 or 16 or 52(as they don't affect value of mode) but not 15.
