The no of moles of solvent is 4.5 moles.

If the mole fraction of 4.5 moles of solute is 0.5.

What is the number of moles of solvent.

Mole fraction of solute : It is the ratio of number moles of solute to the number of moles of solution.

i.e., mole fraction of solute = no of moles of solute/(no of moles of solute + no of moles of solvent)

Here, no of moles of solute = 4.5

mole fraction of solute = 0.5

Let no of moles of solvent be x.

∴ 0.5 = 4.5/(4.5 + x)

⇒ 4.5 + x = 4.5/0.5 = 9

⇒ x = 4.5

Therefore the no of moles of solvent is 4.5 moles.
