If the number of children is 15, then find the number of adults ? (i) 10 (ii) 25 (iii) 15 (iv) 20
solve step by step
Answers
There are 15 children and their parents each children have 2 parents then multiply 15×2=30
COMPLETE QUESTION
On his birthday, Manoj planned that this time he celebrates his birthday in a small orphanage centre. He bought apples to give to children and Adults working there. Manoj donated 2 apples to each children and 3 apples to each adult working there along with Birthday cake. He distributed 60 total apples.
(a) How to represent the above situation in linear equations in two variables by taking the number of children as ‘x’ and the number of adults as ‘y’?
(i) 2x + y = 60
(ii) 3x + 2y = 60
(iii) 2x + 3y = 60
(iv) 3x + y = 60
(b) If the number of children is 15, then find the number of adults ? (i) 10 (ii) 25 (iii) 15 (iv) 20
ANSWER
(a) (iii) 2x + 3y = 60
(a) (iii) 2x + 3y = 60(b) (iii) 15
GIVEN
Apples donated to each adult = 3
Apples donated to each child = 2
Total apples distributed = 60
TO FIND
- Linear equation to represent the above situation
- Number of Adults
SOLUTION
We can simply solve the above problem as follows;
The standard form of linear equation in two variables is given by,
ax + by + c = 0
Where,
a = coefficients of x
b = coefficient of y
And,
a, b and c are real numbers.
ATQ
Number of children = x
Number of apples 1 child is given = 2
Number of apples donated to x children = 2x
Similarly,
Number of adults = y
Number of apples donated to every adult = 3
Number of apples donated to y adults = 3y
Total number of apples = Number of apples donated to adults+ Number of apples donated to children.
Linear equation thus formed,
2x + 3y = 60.
Hence, The correct answer is option (iii) 2x + 3y = 60
(b) It is given,
Number of children = 15
Putting this value in above formed linear equation,
2x + 3y = 60
2 × 15 + 3y = 60
30 + 3y = 60
Subtracting the whole equation by 30
30 + 3y - 30 = 60-30
3y = 30
Dividing the whole equation by 3
y = 30/3 = 15
Hence, The number of adults is 15
