Question:

If the numbers (x-2), (4x-1), (5x+2) are in A.P. find x.

Given:

(x-2),(4x-1) and (5x+2) are in AP.

Solution:

First term(a) = x-2

Second term(a+d) = 4x-1

Third term(a+2d) = 5x+2

Since the three numbers are in AP, the common difference between these terms are the same.

ATQ,

4x-1-x+2 = 5x+2-4x+1

3x-1 = x+3

3x-x = 3+1

2x = 4

x = 2
