Answer:

They are in AP, therefore common difference 'd' is same, ie,

a2 - a1 = a3 - a2

2x + 1 - x - 3 = x - 7 - 2x - 1

x - 2 = - x - 8

x + x = - 8 + 2

2x = - 6

x = - 3

x + 3 = 0

2x + 1 = - 5

x - 7 = - 10

Ap = 0, - 5, - 10

Given:

 x +3 ,\: 2x+1, \:x-7 ,\:are\: in \:A.P

______________________________

SoluTion:

We know that if a,b,c are in A.P

Then 2b=a+c

Therefore,

\implies 2(2x+1)=(x+3) + (x-7)

\implies 4x+ 2 = x +3 + x - 7

\implies 4x -x - x = 3-7-2

\implies 2x = -6

\implies x= \dfrac{\cancel{-6}}{\cancel{2}}

\implies\large{\boxed{x=-3}}}
