Answer:

1/12

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the original fraction be x/y

Numerator when increased by 20% becomes 1.2x

Denominator when decreased by 25% becomes 0.75y

Hence, 1.2x/0.75y = 2/15

x/y = 2/15 * 0.75/1.2 = 0.05/0.6 = 1/12

Hence , the original fraction is 5/36

1) Let the original fraction be x/y

2) Increasing the numerator  by 20% and diminishing the denominator by 25%

gives : 6x/5 and 5y/4  respectively

3) The new fraction would become : (6x/5) / (5y/4) = 24x/25y

4) But the given new fraction is 2/ 15

5) Equating both gives 24x/25y = 2/15

x/y  = 2*25/15*24 = 5 / 3*12 = 5/36
