yeah definitely the damage of optic nerve can leads to Visual impairment as optic nerves carries the picture in the form of electrical signals to the brain and the stories as a memory if  there is no transaction of electrical signals than other won't be any image formation and memory storage so  damage in optic  nerve is serious
