if you put a=1,2

the two ordered pairs will be

(1,-1),(2,1)

now we compare these pairs with (x, -1),(5,y)

so, x=1 and y=1

Question :

If the ordered pair (x , -1) ,(5, y) belong to the set {(a,b)| b = 2a - 3} , find x and y .

ANSWER :

  \\ \longrightarrow \: \large{ \red{ \bold{ x = 1 \: , \: y = 7 }}} \\

EXPLANATION :

GIVEN :

 \:  \: {\huge{.}} \:  \: { \bold{(x , - 1) \: and \: (5, y) \in \:  \{ (a,b) \: where \: b = 2a - 3 } \}}

TO FIND :

Value of x and y .

SOLUTION :

First ordered (x , -1) pair belongs to the given function b = 2a - 3 , So that –

 \\ \implies{ \bold{ (- 1) = 2(x) - 3}} \\

  \\ \implies{ \bold{ 3- 1 = 2x }} \\

  \\ \implies{ \bold{ 2 = 2x }} \\

  \\ \implies \large{ \red{ \boxed{ \bold{ x = 1 }}}} \\

First ordered (5 , y) pair belongs to the given function b = 2a - 3 , So that –

 \\ \implies{ \bold{ y = 2(5) - 3}} \\

 \\ \implies{ \bold{ y = 10 - 3}} \\

  \\ \implies \large{ \red{ \boxed{ \bold{ y = 7 }}}} \\

Hence , The value of x is 1 and y is 7.
