Given:

The quantity of black paint mixed = 16 gallons

The quantity of white paint mixed = 2 gallons

To Find:

We have to identify the shade of grey paint that it makes with a 16: 2 ratio.

Solution:

When we write the ratio of black paint to white paint for the given amount, we get it as 16:2.

When we simplify that by dividing both numbers by 2, we get it as 8:1.

Some of the ratios of black paint to white paint needed to make different shades of gray paint are listed below.

  • White grey pearl ↔ 1: 20
  • Urban grey ↔ 1: 16
  • Grey fox ↔ 2: 1
  • Volcanic grey ↔ 8: 1

∴ The ratio of black to white paint, 8: 1 will make it volcanic grey.
