Step-by-step explanation:

Let side of the square = a m

If one side of a square is increased by 2 m

and other side is reduced by 2 m , a rectangle

is formed

Dimensions of the rectangle

length = ( a + 2 ) m

Breadth = ( a - 2 ) m

According to the problem given ,

Perimeter of the rectangle = 48 m

2( l + b ) = 48

2 [ a + 2 + a - 2 ] = 48

2 × 2a = 48

4a = 48

a = 48 / 4

a = 12

Therefore side of the original

square = a = 12m
