put x = 1 and y = 0 in the above equation.

= 1/a + 0/b = 1

= 1a + 0 = 1

= a = 1

the point (2, 1 ) also lies on the graph of the above equation it must satisfy it.

put x = 2 and y = 1, in the above equation.

2/a + 1/b = 1

= 2/1 + 1/b = 1 [ as a = 1 ]

= 1/b = 1 − 2 = −1

= b = − 1
