SOLUTION :-

Given that, the point P( 6 , 2) divides the line segment joining A(6 , 5) and B(4 , y) in the ration 3 : 1 .

Using section formula we can find the value of y.

  \boxed{\bf y = \dfrac{my_2+ny_1}{m+n}}

Here,

y = 2

\sf y_1 = 5

\sf y_2 = y

m = 3

n = 1

\longrightarrow\sf 2=\dfrac{(3\times y)+(1\times 5) }{3+1}\\\\\longrightarrow 2=\dfrac{3y+5}{4}\\\\\longrightarrow 3y+5=8\\\\\longrightarrow 3y = 3 \\\\\longrightarrow \bf y = 1

Value of y = 1
