P = 2.5  if the points (-2,-5),(2,-2) and (8,P) are collinear

Step-by-step explanation:

the points (-2,-5),(2,-2) and (8,P) are collinear

=> area covered by these points = 0

(1/2) | -2(-2 - P)  + 2(P -(-5))  + 8(-5 -(-2)) | = 0

=> | 4 + 2P + 2P + 10 - 24 | = 0

=>  4P - 10 = 0

=> P = 10/4

=> P = 2.5

or Slope between any two collinear points would be same

(-2 -(-5))/(2 - (-2))  =  (P - (-2))/(8 - 2)

=> 3/4  = (P + 2)/6

=> P + 2 = 18/4

=> P = 10/4

=> P = 2.5
