The given points are A(8,1), B(p,-4) and C(2,-5)

We have (x1=8,y1=1),(x2=p,y2=-4) and(x3=2,y3=-5)

The given points A,B and C are collinear

Therefore, x1(y2−y3)+x2(y3−y1)+x3(y1−y2)=0

⇒(8)⋅{-4+5)}+p(-5-1)+2(1−4)=0

⇒{8×1+p×(-6)+2×(-3)}=0

⇒2-6p=0

Hence, p= \frac{1}{3}
