The value of j is 10.5.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : If the points A(-2,-5)B(2,-2)and C(8,j) are collinear.

To find : The value of j?

Solution :

When three points are collinear then the condition is

x_1(y_2 - y_3) + x_2(y_3 - y_1) + x_3(y_1 - y_2) = 0

Where, x_1 = -2, x_2 = 2,x_3 = 8, y_1 =-5, y_2 =-2, y_3=j

Substituting the values,

-2(-2-j) +2(j-(-5)) +8(-5-2) = 0

 4+2j+2j+10-56= 0

4j-42= 0

4j=42

j=\frac{42}{4}

j=10.5

Therefore, the value of j is 10.5.
