Given: a(3, 5) and b(1, 4) lie on the graph of equation ax + by = 7.

To find: Solutions of a and b.

Answer:

1st case: a(3, 5)

x = 3 and y = 5

a*3 + b*5 = 7

3a + 5b = 7

3a = 7 - 5b

a = 7 - 5b/3 (To be used as substitution of a in 2nd case).

2nd case: b(1, 4)

x = 1 and b = 4

a*1 + b*4 = 7

a + 4b = 7

Substituting value of a from 1st case.

7 - 5b/3 + 4b = 7

-5b/3 + 4b = 7 - 7

-5b/3 + 4b = 0

LCM: 3

4b/1*3/3 =  12b/3

-5b/3 + 12b/3 = 7b/3

7b/3 = 0

7b = 0*3

7b = 0

b = 0/7

b = 0

Therefore solution of a and b is a = 7 - 5b/3 and b = 0

Hope it helps :)
