Given

Population of the town= 50,000

Time = 3 years

Rate at which the population increases= 10% p.a.

To Find

The population at the end of 3 years.

Solution

For the 1st year,

The population at the beginning of the year=50,000

The rate of increase=10%

Therefore the total increase in population=\frac{10}{100}×50000

                                                                      = 5000

The population at the end of the year=55000

For the second year,

The population at the beginning of the year=55,000

The rate of increase=10%

Therefore the total increase in population=\frac{10}{100}×55000

                                                                      = 5500

The population at the end of the year=60500

For the 3rd year,

The population at the beginning of the year=60500

The rate of increase=10%

Therefore the total increase in population=\frac{10}{100}×60500

                                                                      = 6050

The population at the end of the year=66550

The population at the end of 3 years is 66550
