The percentage increase is 200%.
Explanation:
cosφ = power factor = R/Z
Where "R" is resistance and Z" is impedence
and Z = √ R^2+X^2
Where X is reactance.
1/3 = R/Z = R √ R^2 + X1^2
9 = 1 + (X1/R)^2
(X1/R)^2 = 8
X1/R = 2 √2 = 2.82
X1 = 2.82 R
Now 1/9 = R/Z = R √R^2 + X2^2
81 = 1 + (X2/R)^2
(X2/R)^2 = 80
X2 / R = 8.944
X2 = 8.94 R
% increase = 8.94 R − 2.82 R /2.82 R x 100 = 217 so approx 200 %
Hence the percentage increase is 200%.
