If the President of India is just a nominal head and all actual powers are vested with the Prime Minister and his council, why do we still have him?

It is true that most of the constituent powers are given to the PM, and his council and decisions are taken after parliament agrees with it.

But it would also be wrong to say that the President of India has no power of his own and it is just a ceremonial post.

The President is the highest citizen of India and the rights to influence and advice the Govt.

Though in fewer cases but when Emergency is declared, PM resigns, or in such intense situations the President is the prime administrator.

President also has many kinds of specialized facilities and influences which affect Indian polity.
