Given : price  of the book Is reduced by 2, a boy can buy 2 books more with the amount he has. But if the price is increased by 3 he could buy 2 books less with the same amount.

To find : the actual price of the book and the amount he has

Solution:

Let say Cost of Book = C

Number of bbok he can buy  = B

Amount he had  = BC

price of a book is reduced by rs 2, a boy can buy 2 books more with the amount he has

(C - 2) (B + 2)  = BC

=> BC  +2C - 2B - 4 = BC

=> C = B + 2

he price is increased by Rs 3, he could buy 2 books less with the same amount

(C + 3) ( B - 2)  = BC

=> BC +3B - 2C - 6 = BC

=>  2C  = 3B - 6

Substitute C = B + 2

=> 2(B + 2) = 3B - 6

=> 2B + 4 = 3B - 6

=> B = 10

C = 10 + 2 = 12

BC = 120

Actual price of the book = 12

Amount he had  = 120
