If the price of petrol increases by 20%, by what percent should Mr. Brown reduce his consumption of petrol so that his expenditure on petrol remains the same?​

Let the monthly uses of petrol cost Mr. Brown be 10 L costing Rs 100

After 20 % increment, cost of same uses = 120 Rs

Therefore, rate pf petrol = 12 Rs/ L

For spending only 100 Rs he should use (100/12)L petrol montly.

Reduction = 10 - (100/12) = (20/12) L

Percentage reduction = {(20/12) x 100}/10 = 16.67%
