There is simple and direct formula for this, in case of increment use the formula given below to calculate the reduced consumption in percentage. Here R= rate of increment.
{R/(100+R)}*100
So putting the value of R=30 we would get around 23.07%

Given
- 30 percentage increase in petrol price
To find
- the decrease in conception so as to maintain the budget same
Solution
we are provided with the percentage increase in the price of petrol and are asked to find the decrease that should be made in the conception so that the budget would be same as before.
let us assume the price of petrol before the increment is 100.
therefore 30% is increase would make the price,
100 + (30/100)× 100
or, 100 + 30
or, 130
the decreasement that should be made to maintain the budget,
[(130-100)/130]× 100
or, (30/130)× 100
or, 0.2307× 100
or, 23.07℅
