Expenditure = Price * Consumption, that is,

Expenditure = x * y₁

According to question,

Price of Rice is increased by 30%

So, New price of Rice = x + (30% of x ) = 1.3 x

Let new Consumption be y₂

Given,

Expenditure should remain same:

x * y₁ = 1.3x * y₂

y₂  = y₁ / 1.3

y₂  = 10y₁ / 1.3

Decrease in consumption = \frac{3}{13} * 100%

= 23.07%

Hence,

Consumption should be decreased by 23.07 %
