Answer:

20

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

If the price of sugar increased by 30% and Salman intends to spend only an additional 4% on sugar, by how much percent should he reduce the quantity  of sugar purchased?

Assume initial price of 1 kg sugar be Rs 100

Salman spends Rs 100 for 1 kg sugar.

Now sugar is increased by 30%, so price will be

= 100 x (100 + 30) / 100 = Rs 130

Salman spends additional 4% on sugar

Now amount spent by Salman = 100 x (100 + 4) / 100 = Rs 104

Therefore, quantity of sugar he can purchase = 104/130 kg

Quantity of sugar reduced = 1 – (104 /130) kg

Now percentage quantity of reduction will be 1 – (104 /130) x 100 / 1

               = 130 – 104 / 130 x 100

              = 26/13 x 10

            = 20%

So he should reduce the quantity of sugar by 20%
