Given :  probability is 0.05 that a certain kind of measuring device will show excessive drift

To Find : what is the probability that the sixth of these measuring devices tested will be the first to show excessive drift

Solution:

probability  to show excessive drift =  0.05

probability  not to show excessive drift =  1 - 0.05  = 0.95

probability that the sixth of these measuring devices tested will be the first to show excessive drift

Means 1st 5 will not show excessive drifts

= (0.95)⁵(0.05)

≈ 0.03869

0.0387
