EXPLANATION.

  • GIVEN

if the quadratic equation kx^2 - 2kx + 2 = 0

has equal Roots

TO FIND VALUE OF K.

for equation has real and equal roots

Therefore,

d =  {b}^{2}  - 4ac = 0

kx^2 - 2kx + 2 = 0

D = ( -2k)^2 - 4(k)(2) = 0

4k^2 - 8k = 0

k ( 4k - 8 ) = 0

4k - 8 = 0

k = 2

Therefore,

value of k = 2

SOME RELATED FORMULA.

1) \:  d > 0 = roots \:  \: are \:  \: real \:  \: and \:  \: unequal

2) \: d = 0 \:  \: roots \:  \: are \:  \: real \:  \: and \:  \: equal

3) \: d < 0 \:  \: roots \:  \: are \:  \: imaginary
